Radovljica with its surroundings offers visitors many opportunities for an active holiday.
Hiking / Mountaineering
The Karavanken chain that extends from Tarvisio in Italy to Slovenj Gradec. Along the main ridge is the border between Slovenia and the neighboring country of Austria. Near radovljica are the most beautiful peaks. The highest peaks Stol (2236 m) and Begunjščica (2063 m) can be seen right out of the apartment. The starting points are just a few kilometers away.
Pokljuka, a very famous starting point for Triglav (2,864 m), the highest peak of the Julian Alps, is 30 km away. We recommend to take the more demanding tours only in the company of a mountain guide.
For less experienced, who prefer shorter trips, Jelovica is an ideal opportunity. Talež, Goška ravan and Vodiška Planina can be reached in only 1-2 hours.
The two beautiful rivers, joining near Radovlica, Sava Dolinka and Sava Bohinjka, each in their own way, offer visitors unforgettable experiences. On the two rivers rafting is organized, the Sava river is particularly popular with the fishermen.
Swimmers have the opportunity, both in summer and in winter, to swim in the Olympic pool. Many successful swimmers have made their first experiences in Radovljica. In summer the lake of Bled surely offers the best opportunity for refreshment.
For Golfers the attractively designed golf course in Bled, just 6 km away from radovljica, offers an ideal way to relax.
Horse lovers and equestrians should not miss to visit the race track Šobec in Bled.
The airfield Lesce is only 3 km away from the apartment. You can take a ride in the a Aviotaxi and look at the beautiful landscape Carniola from above, or watch parachute jumps from the terrace of the airport restaurant.
Mountain biking / Running
To the south of Radovljica on the plateau of Jelovica there are numerous gravel roads. The trails are perfect for mountain bikers or skiers who appreciate the solitude.
40 km away from Radovljica lie, beside Kranjska Gora, known for the World Cup races, the high-altitude ski resorts Vogel (36 km) and Krvavec (37 km) which are within easy reach.
Winter trails are created in the vicinity of the city. The skiers who like the cross-country skiing in particular, will especially like the Pokljuka (26 km) where the trails lead through quiet forests.
And if the weather is bad or if you want to have a rest day?
You will not get bored!
Radovljica is known for beekeeping. In the museum of beekeeping you can see an interesting collection of old decorated Beehives (usually they are humorously painted faceplates of hives) of the 18th and 19 Century - a special feature of the Slovenian folk art.
In the castle theres is also a Linhart memorial room, where you can see the work of the Slovenian historian and playwright Anton Tomaž Linhart.
In the small village Kropa, which is a technical and cultural National Monument since 1953, you can see one of the oldest surviving European furnaces.
You have certainly already heard of the Oberkreiner? The Avsenik brothers come from Begunje. In the family guest house you can enjoy folk music, dancing and of course good food. But you should not miss the Museum of Upper Kreiner history with the art gallery.
In the district of Begunje (starting point for the hike to Bert Roblek and Begunjščica) is the Kamen castle which is well worth seeing.
Vrba, 7 km from radovljica, was the birthplace of the greatest Slovenian poet, France Prešeren, author of the Zdravljicat, which has become the Slovenian anthem. In his birthplace, a collection of contemporary interior can be seen.
